The Man Behind The Mask<2>

"Have you kept that promise?" The man asked with a hint of sympathy for her.

"I've tried, I really have! I went for days without food or sleep! I couldn't stop thinking about him."

"What was your lover's name?" He stopped so he could set her down on her feet.

"William," She replied. She let the pleasurable taste of his name dance across her tongue. She let it settle and then repeated it, "William, I loved him so much. It was an unbreakable love. A thousand swords couldn't slice it in half. Not even death could stop us from loving eachother." Her gaze fell past him as she gazed upon the very sea that had swallowed her loved one.

The moon rose higher in the sky and shone brightly on their backs.
Their gazes locked again.
"He had eyes just like yours. A deep green/blue. Like..."

"The ocean after a storm had raged through it. Like a sunset leaving behind hints of brown light," He finished for her.

He had just recited her own words!

He peeled of the black mask and revealed it hansom face.

"William!" She cried and threw her arms around his neck. "I knew it couldn't have been true! You're alive!" Her voice trailed off into sobs of joy. When she pulled herself away, she ran the back of her hand down the side of his cheek. Tracing the scar that he had gotten from a sword fight long ago. She ran her fingers through his sandy brown hair, "It's really you."

He had a smile like an angel. With light dimples on his cheeks. His gingerly freckled face and eyes were enough to send a girl overboard.

"THERE!!!" A loud voice echoed. "GET HIM!" It cried again.

"Ahh!' William knelt to the ground. He was holding his right shoulder. When he pulled his hand away, it was red with blood.
An arrow fell beside him and a man appeared out of nowhere and pulled him up.

"Take him to the dungeons!!!" Another voice cried.

Caroline was pulled up and found herself on a horse's back behind the prince. He turned around and galloped toward the castle. Caroline looked back and caught the last glance of William being helplessly dragged away...
