"Hi Dave." I smiled.

"Are you ok?" He tilted his little head.

"Yeah, why?

"Nottin. You just look bad...Like you saw a ghost." Dave walked me on the path to the house.

I laughed. "It's not that bad. I just had a bad day, and I'm terrible hungry."

"Mom made potato!" Dave grinned. I gained bounces and ran to the house.

"But it's not done!" He yelled after me.

"Mom! Hi. I'm hungry, can I have some potato? Please?" I slipped my backpack off and hurried to the counter.

Mom laughed. "Calm down Ree. I'm still mashing. Didn't I pack you enough?"

"Yes, you did. Thanks.

"Why are you still hungry?

"Uh-well," I scratched my neck. "Something happened to it." I didn't want Mom to know I was being teased. "But I'm fine Mom."

Mom nodded. She knew I didn't want to talk about it so she didn't press me on.

"Mom?

"Yes?

"Would you think I'm crazy if I believed in a legend?" I asked. There. What would Mom think?
