FULL CONTEST GUIDELINES
We are excited to announce The New Year Contest: A Fresh Start—a writing contest with a cash prize and publication of the winning entries for FaithWriter kids!
The theme for the entries should be about starting fresh, about someone who is starting again or making changes in their life, and must be between 150 and 750 words long. Entries will be accepted December 1st through the extended deadline of December 31st, 2012.
The entries will be judged on the following points: How creative, unique, and memorable is this entry? How well-written is this entry? Does it have a strong beginning and ending? Did the author communicate the point they wanted to make to the reader?
You must be between the ages of 7 to 14 as of December 1, 2012 to enter the FW Kids' Writing Contest. There will be two different age groups: one from 7 to 10 and the other from 11 to 14. A first place winner from each age group will win a $15 gift certificate and publication in the FW magazine, and a second place winner from each group will win a $10 gift certificate. So tell your friends, siblings, classmates, Sunday School friends, neighbors, and anyone else to come check us out!
Only ONE entry per member is permitted. To enter, submit the article under the “contest” category and title it “New Year’s Contest: [title]” with your article title. Then email the link to the story to contact [at] sparrowsflight [dot] net (with the words in brackets converted to the appropriate symbol). In the body of the email, please include your real name, your email address, and a phone number. We will use that information only to contact you—it will not be sold or shared. Please also tell us whether you would like your real name listed publically as the author, or if you would prefer only your FW username. Also include a two to three sentence bio about yourself, written in third person, to be included with the published article if you are the winner. Submissions with incomplete information will not be eligible for the contest.
No content you have written before the announcement of this contest can be used. This is to allow all writers to have the same amount of time to perfect their entries.
You are encouraged to have a proofreader help you perfect your story; however, the idea and original article must be written by the author alone.
Entries may be in any style or genre, and they do not need to be overtly Christian in message. However, they should at least reflect a Christian outlook. This just means good should be shown as good and that bad is shown as bad. The entries should not be overly violent or sensual or use bad language.
With the obvious exception of lyrics and poetry written by the submitting author, contest entries must NOT include any copyrighted song lyrics or poetry, in part or in full, unless the lyrics or poems fall within the Public Domain. The use of song and poem titles is acceptable.
If you use any Scripture verse(s) in your entry, you MUST identify the source of the Scripture, (i.e. NIV, NKJV, NLT, etc.) by including a footnote with that information.
By entering the Writing Contest, you agree to allow FaithWriters.com to use your article in any FaithWriters' book or FaithWriters Magazine,
You also acknowledge that you are the author of all material submitted and that your entry is not plagiarized in any way.
You agree to give FaithWriters.com permission to edit your winning entry in preparation for publication.
FaithWriters.com reserves the right, at any time, to reject any entry into the Writing Contest if deemed inappropriate.
FaithWriters.com reserves the right to change the prizes or combine the age categories if there are not enough entries.
