The Diary Of Emma Whitestone - Part 11
The Biz

June 4, 1837

I have felt very uplifted over the last few days spent at the school. The visit was dreaded, I admit, but despite the addition of the three men whom I dislike, I regret thinking this for Mr. Godfrey is more kind and gentle than I cared to add yesterday.
To show you a bit of what I mean: It was only today that this happened. Mr. Kupert, breaking out of his unpleasant shell, began speaking to us about his perspective of the gospel. It was very boring, sitting there, especially under the malicious eye of Helen Brusher (and I can't get away with not stating that she was tickling with her icy fingers at my neck, poking me in the back until it ached, and deliberately whispering about Catherine to annoy me, which is not unusual nor unexpected!).
Standing nearby to Kupert as he preached away (although he knew not that none were interested nor listening, save the other gentlemen and perhaps Mrs. Frugular) were Mr. Harshwig and Bradbury, and, much to my disappointment, Godfrey was discussing things with Pastor Fulgary so I had not a chance to look him in the eye and try to communicate about Helen. But soon their chatting stopped, and fortunately, Mr. Godfrey did catch a glimpse of Helen taunting me, and immediately motioned for her to stop.
As soon as his eye was taken off of our direction I turned round and saw Helen with a red face, and I smirked at her, but I do not know if that was quite a sin, as she does many things to deserve it and more. And from now on her teasing has surprisingly stopped.
Mr. Godfrey has made my heart lighter and confident for the first time in my entire story. I am quite excited for tomorrow, for the latter is going to give a teaching on HIS perspective of the gospel, which I will listen to eagerly and contentedly.
Then it will be Mr. Bradbury's turn, and then it will move on to Mr. Harshwig, although I already know his perspective, and it is not interesting any more than Kupert's, I assure you.
It would be lovely if I had a little notebook to write down things from Mr. Godfrey's teaching, so I would have something else to focus on when he was not talking to us. Perhaps Hannah has a few pages I can borrow!
Perhaps...
