Harshwig is scheduled to return 15 of June. We are all in a great state of dread when we are reminded of his coming.
In every respect, I try not to be so, but it is hard, and in a way now harder, ever since my friend went away.
It is very probable that I shall not last long enough to see his hateful face once more, as Catherine is not here to tell me not to think about it, or to encourage me, something that the poor dear always used to do.
And I expect this time it will be much worse, for the coming of Mr. Harshwig will also be accompanied by Mr. Godfrey, Mr. Bradbury, and Mr. Kupert.
I always will hope in my soul that the coming of these four men will not lead to Mr. Harshwig becoming the new head, nor Mr. Bradbury, for it is supposed that has not greater value in being the head of the school any more then the Pastor, according to the lying mouth of Helen Brusher, that is.
I have managed to get inside the head of Charlotte Silks, however, and now there is a better chance at my being her new friend, and her mine. Who can judge me? Perhaps this small friendship can grow into a bigger and better one then that of Catherine.
She is in my age group, non older nor younger, and I do not fear of losing this friendship... not yet.
