Cold Steel part 10
Jai took a deep breath as he boarded the transport. After 30 years of running, hiding, and killing, he was going to earth. But he didn’t care; he was here, and Destrian was dead. The droning ‘whoosh’ of the helicopter blades filled the air as it became louder. The door slid closed, and he looked around. He was the only ‘winner’ this time. He gasped as sharp pain entered his mind…..then black. He fell to the floor with a thud. “He’s out,” He heard one of the guards say, just as he lost consciousness.

Jai groaned. He was lying on—a very strange cot of sorts. But, this one was softer, not like the ones on Tyran. He stepped off the bed, and his feet reached cold marble floor. He winced, and glanced around the sun-lit room. His clothes! He was wearing—strange clothes….he stepped to the window, and gasped when he saw how high he was, and yet…he wasn’t afraid. His memory—it was like he had experienced all this before….My name is Jai Rona. I’m in a hotel, and I’m wearing a business suit. Jai blinked, rubbing his head. He looked at the mirror. “Destrian,” he whispered, “I wish….I’m so sorry…..” He shook his head sadly, Then stopped. Who was Destrian? Your sister, dumbo, your DEAD sister. He sighed, and stepped out of the room.
…….
Jai walked out of the hotel, and looked around. Where am I? I’m in New York City. Why am I here? I—he stopped. Why was he here? He was forgetting…he wasn’t sure what, but he was certain he was forgetting….He shrugged the thoughts aside, and walked down the sidewalk. A man in a business suit much like his own walked in his general direction. “Hey, Jai,” He waved, passing him. Jai froze. That man knew his name? Of course he does, His name is Marvin, and you work at the same company. Jai shrugged again, and continued his walk. He was passing a boutique shop, when he stopped again. There was a woman, setting things up in the window; a beautiful woman. She looked up at him, smiled, and waved. Jai felt his stomach rise into his throat. She was beau—no, gorgeous. Jai absently ran his hand through his hair, and crossed the street towards the boutique. The small bell gave a soft ‘ding’ as he opened the door. Soft jazz was playing over the speakers, and a fragrance of roses filled his rose. Everything in the shop seemed—pink. He turned towards the counter and…there she was. He swallowed, and approached the woman. “Good afternoon, sir,” The woman greeted with her perfect, white smile. “Ye-yes, I….” Jai stammered. The woman seemed a little confused. Jai cleared his throat and said, “What’s your name?” The lady hesitated, and then said “Janel Syra.” Jai’s heartbeat sped up a couple notches. “Ms. Janel,” Jai began, “my name is Jai Rona, and…” His voiced squeaked, and he cleared his throat again. “Would you like to have lunch?”
EPILOUGE
4 years later….
“Oh, Jai, she’s beautiful!” Janel cried holding up her two hour old baby. Jai leaned over the hospital bed, and smiled, softly. “She is beautiful, Janel,” He said. Shoots of black hair peaked out of the baby’s scalp, and little blue eyes opened, lazily. “You name her,” Janel insisted. Jai thought for a moment, and whispered, “Cheyanna. Cheyanna Doreen Rona.” All through this, Jai just knew he was forgetting something. Underneath all his buried memories, he could almost remember…..
…..but remember what?....
