As we were sitting at the dining room table enjoying pizza (mum was just too happy to order it!), Rachel was explaining how she came across her secret room, and we both took turns telling the day’s adventures.
Mum and dad were NOT impressed.
“We’ve forgiven each other, I’m fine mum, we both are! I was just a little shaken today.” I said as I slapped left over pieces of Hawaiian and garlic pizza into a container and threw the cardboard pizza boxes with ‘Enjoy your pizza!’ written on it into the recycling.
Mum shook her head, sighed and propped herself up on her elbows as she sat down on a chair, leaning on the bench. “Your sister was not at all being nice, and this Miss Newton, thinking my little girl was a liar, well, I have a good mind of pulling you out of school!”
I paid attention now!
“Where would we go?”
“I’d homeschool you!”
“But…are you really going to do that?”
Mum nodded. “I’ve been thinking about it…praying about it.”
I was silent. “You can have your friends over after school and on weekends.”
“Well, I actually have NO friends, but……”
Mum laughed. “Nonsense! A girl like you must have lots of friends!
I shrugged, twisting my lips. “Not me!”
Exhausted, I looked at the clock and announced I was going to bed. Mum switched of the kitchen light and settled down on the couch with a magazine.
The fresh air was blowing through my screen door that led out onto the decking. Pulling down the covers and closing the screen door and curtains, I shut down my laptop and settled into bed.
As I sat in bed my pink fairly lights twinkling, I sighed.
‘Homeschooling! Who would of thought of it! That WOULD be nice!”.................
