The next week, the master made the announcement that he did not have the funds to keep all the slaves. He decided to sell Mama, Sally, Jasmine's friend, and Jasmine. Jasmine was heart broken, she hoped that Mama, and her friend Sally, would be sold to the same person. Jasmine hoped and prayed until the time had come to go the slave market.
As it turned out Jasmine and Sally were sold to the same master, but Mama was sold to a different master far away from where Jasmine was going. Jasmine decided to talk to Sally and Mama before they would leave for their plantations.
Jasmine said "lets run away, what else can we do?"
Sally said, "I'd agree with you, but I am scared!! What if we get caught?"
Jasmine said, "That is just the chance we'll have to take. Maybe we should see what our master will be like, and then we'll decide."
Mama said, "I think I will just be content with my master, unless he is really really cruel."
"Okay, that sounds like a good idea," Jasmine and Sally said. "Lets just see what happens when the get there."
As it turns out Mama's master was not so cruel, he had a tendency to use a whip, but did not use it for no reason.
However, Jasmine's master was very cruel.
One night, when Jasmine was talking to Sally and one of her new friends Jurusha.
"What do you think the master would do if we ran away and were caught." Jasmine said quietly.
Jurusha said, "I'm not sure. He would probably whip you so good that you would not want to stand again or runaway. Then he would probably sell you to some where far away."
Jasmine said tensely, "Should we risk it?"
